Amazon Prime Day Special Edition

Good morning

Amazon’s 48 hour Prime Day sale has now officially started, and as you probably know, they’ve been running pre-sale sales for the last week or so.

There are some great bargains to be enjoyed, and to help you decide how to respond, as promised, I’ve written a detailed Buyer’s Guide to their range of Alexa Echo units, attached below.  There’s sure to be one or more than one of the eight different Echo units covered that you’ll want, and find at great discounts.

I’ve already noticed Bose NC700 noise cancelling headphones for $299 instead of $399 and the QC 35 II headphones for $249 instead of $349 (my preferred of the two units), the Fire Stick 4K for $25 instead of $50, and the Fire HD 10 tablet for $80 instead of $150.  The Echo Dot, Echo, and Echo Show units are all discounted, but disappointingly not the Echo Studio or Echo Sub.

Two very important things to remember :

First, if you’re not already a Prime Member, you can get a free 30 day trial membership, allowing you to take full advantage of all the deals.

Second, not all deals are as great as they seem to be.  For example, we had a PR company asking us to write about a cell phone they were representing, telling me that the phone, normally priced at $600, would be discounted to $480 on Amazon for the Prime Day sale.  Sounded like a heck of a deal, until I went and looked on the manufacturer’s site – they were selling the phone, last week, for $500 including a case/protector!  In other words, if anything, the phone would be slightly more expensive during the Prime Day sale.

But how can you tell if the prices are truly good or not?  Use this website – Camel Camel Camel.  They show a price history for many/most of the items on Amazon.  You can see what the normal price is, what past discounts have been, and how often the unit is discounted.

Happy shopping, and, as always, caveat emptor.

I’ll be back on Friday, of course.
